Project 24 Medical Solutions 22 08:00 PM
SDN Cikasungka IV is located on the border of Tangerang and Bogor. The source of water in the community comes from a deep well. For the community members that live near the school, they come to the school to ask for water whenever their wells are dry. In order to meet the daily water needs for washing clothes, bathing, and washing dishes, people often use water from the nearby river as there is no other option, as well as a lack of knowledge about water-health and hygiene. The sources of income and livelihood in the rural village of Ranca Asem consist of vegetable vendors, cake stall merchants, farm workers and construction workers. The impact of not having access to clean, safe water has led to frequent skin problems, diarrhea, and typhoid. Due to a lack of knowledge about water-health and hygiene, the mothers in the village do not understand that the waterborne diseases impacting the children do not have to be a way of life.
Due to the lack of knowledge about water-health and hygiene, the school principal hopes that the communities and the schools can get an education about clean water, health, and hygiene in order to help provide motivation to live a healthier life and help the students have a brighter, healthier future.
Our Need For Clean, Safe Water
“At home we do not have clean water. To meet the need of drinking water every day, my mother fetches water from the well. When I go to school I bring water from home, but if I forget to bring it, I ask a friend. Sometimes I drink tap water directly, but as a result of drinking water from the faucet, sometimes I feel stomach pains. I have to ignore them because there is no other choice.”
- Muhamad Fadli Rizky, Age 9
